Peter Macchiarini

Born in Santa Rosa, California in 1909. Taken to Italy as a child where he studied art, architecture, drawing and marble cutting at a school in Lucca province. When he returned to the U.S. he lived in SF and produced stone work which adorns the old Fox Theatre and Grace Cathedral. During the Depression, he joined the Works Progress Administration's art project, and has remained an important part of the City's art scene ever since. Making jewelry in the North Beach section for more than 50 years. Picked up techniques for making his wearable art when he worked in the shipyards during WWII. As of 12/27/95, he resides in S.F. at 2427 - 33rd Avenue. Phone: 661-8440.
